Optimised Fuel and Oil Transfer Solution in Central Queensland.
Project Overview:
A client required a robust aboveground diesel and oil storage and transfer solution. PETRO Industrial was tasked with replacing the existing setup on-site with an improved, high-efficiency design that seamlessly integrated with the client’s existing underground pipework and infrastructure.
The objective was to efficiently transfer diesel and 15W-40 oil from storage tanks, through underground pipework leading to a dispensing point located 100 meters away. PETRO Industrial designed and supplied a turnkey system, integrating high-performance pumps, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and a custom-built control system to ensure seamless operation and energy efficiency.
Scope of Work:
PETRO Industrial supplied and installed two Dual Compartment PETRO LT68 Tanks, designed to facilitate the storage and transfer of both diesel and oil. The entire system was pre-engineered in-house, allowing for rapid on-site installation and integration with the client's existing underground pipework.
Pump Bay Setup:
Diesel Pump: Capable of delivering fuel at 500LPM, the diesel pump is fitted with a diesel upsock, pre-strainer, and anti-vibration components. It includes pressure gauges to monitor pump pressure and directs flow through a filter manifold before entering the underground piping system.
Oil Pump: The oil pump follows the same design as the diesel pump, ensuring consistent filtration and pressure management before connecting to the client's existing pipework.
OLE Fluid Management System (FMS): Enables real-time monitoring of diesel and oil pump performance and usage data.
Walkways: Two mirrored walkways installed on the tanks ensure safe and easy access for maintenance and inspection.
Control System and Automation To provide precise control over the pumping system, PETRO Industrial designed and manufactured an Electrical Control Board with the following key features:
Indicator Lights: Clearly display when pump 1 (Oil) or pump 2 (Diesel) is in operation.
Start/Stop Buttons: Allows operators to manually control each pump as needed.
Remote Control Capability: Wireless remote allows operators to control pumps from up to 100 meters away.
Variable Speed Drives (VSDs): Each pump is equipped with a VSD to adjust pump speed dynamically based on demand and fluid viscosity.
Automated Cooling System: The control box features a dual-fan cooling system to regulate internal temperatures, preventing overheating of VSDs.
Advanced Flow Control with VSD/VFD Technology Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) play a critical role in this project by adjusting the speed of pump motors to accommodate changing fluid properties:
Oil Flow Regulation: 15W40 oil thickens in lower temperatures and thins when hot. The VFD can manually adjust the pump speed to maintain optimal flow rates.
Fuel Pump Control: The diesel pump flow rate can be controlled to match operational needs, improving ene:rgy efficiency and reducing mechanical stress.
